Setup and Registration

We’ll start by going over the hardware and software required to run OSPInsight. Then, we’ll show you how to install and register OSPInsight.

Hardware Requirements

The following are the minimum server hardware requirements necessary to run OSPInsight Edit 8.x. However, the application will perform more efficiently with a more robust server.

Processor

  • Minimum: 2 Core, 2 GHz (x86 Processor) or 2.6 GHz (x64 processor)
  • Recommended: 6 Core, 2.50 GHz, 15M Cache or greater

Memory

  • Minimum: 8 GB RAM
  • Recommended: 16 GB RAM or greater

Available disk space

  • Minimum: 40 GB
  • Recommended: 100 GB SSD or greater

Display and peripherals

  • Display supporting 1360 x 768 or higher
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse or other pointing device

Software Requirements

OSPInsight for MapInfo

The following software is required to run OSPInsight 8x.

  • Windows 7 or newer
  • MapInfo 12.0 or newer (32-bit only)
  • Microsoft .Net 4.5 Framework
  • SQL Server 2012, 2014 or 2016 (Express Edition being the minimum)
    • SQL Server 2017 is not supported
    • CLR Integration feature enabled (required to run routes)(More info)
  • 32-bit ODBC drivers for MapInfo and SQL Server Naive Client 11.0 or newer (included in OSPInsight install package)

The OSPInsight install wizard checks for the following and prompts you if not already on your system.

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistribution Package (x86)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 3 Redistribution Package (x86)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistribution Package (x86)
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5 Full

Installation

MapInfo Pro

Before you can run OSPInsight, you will need to install and activate MapInfo Pro. Please refer to the MapInfo Pro setup instructions for installation.

OSPInsight

OSPInsight is distributed via a URL download. When you purchase the software, you will be provided with a serial number, username, and password that will enable you to download the latest release of the software.

For Edit users

An Edit license gives the user permissions to edit in OSPInsight.

  1. Download the setup file: OSPInsight Edit 8.5 - Full Install.
  2. Run the downloaded setup file.
  3. Follow the installation prompts. We recommend installing OSPInsight to the default directory.

For View users

A View license gives the user permissions to view only in OSPInsight.

  1. Download the setup file: OSPInsight View 8.5 for MapInfo.
  2. Run the downloaded setup file.
  3. Follow the installation prompts. We recommend installing OSPInsight to the default directory.

NOTE: OSPInsight stores database connection and configuration options in a setup.mdb file located in your install directory. Please make sure the user has at least “Read & Execute” permissions in Windows for this file. You can see these permissions in Windows by opening the file’s security settings  (Right-click -> Properties… -> Security).

Registration

To unlock OSPInsight for use, you need to register your instance of the software.

  1. Open OSPInsight.
  2. Select the Help drop-down menu in the toolbar.
  3. Select Register.
  4. In the License Manager window that opens:

For first-time users

      1. Select Activate a license or renewal.
      2. Select applicable internet connection method.
      3. Enter License ID and Password.
      4. Select the Next button.

For those upgrading

      1. Select Refresh my license.
      2. Select applicable internet connection method.
      3. Select the Next button.
